i have a 98 ranger 4x4, with an automatic, the transmission slips some between 2nd and 3rd, do i have to change the transmission, or could it be the trans filter that may be the problem?

IF the trans fluid is clean and full, chances are the clutches are bad and a service most likely won't help. I doesn't hurt to try, but I will say if the trans fuid is really dirty and has a burnt smell, it could make it slip worse.

Let me know if you have other questions.
