Transmission problem
1998 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 165k miles

Iv'e been told my clutch has gone out. It doesn't seem to slip, but it's hard to put into gear, with the engine running, so I assume thats what it is. The cost for replacing the clutch ,pressure plate and whatever else is involved is $600.My question is , does this seem to be a fair price for this repair?

I would get a 2nd opinion on the diagnosis first. It's more likely that it's a problem with the hydraulic clutch system instead. If it has a leak, it will draw air into the system and no longer disengage the clutch. The price is just a little on the steep side if that's really what the problem is.
