1998 Ford Ranger I just dony know?

I know i probally need a new transmission but dont have the money!!!! When i put the truck in reverse it wont click in. I have to press the gass and eventually it clumps in very hard? What do i need to do? And also cananging into gears it clumps too?

all the mounting bolts for the rear end to leaf springsand leaf springs to chasis need to be checked
also the universal joint on the drive shaft needs to be checked
