Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The serpentine belt keeps shredding. The motor was recently replaced with a used one and now the belt started to shred after just a few miles of use. by looking at it when it is running it appears to be tracking fine. The only place I can see any sideways movement is on the tensioner pulley. Is it common for that pulley to getv worn and cause the belt to offtrack?

Yes, that is pretty common. As soon as the tensioner gets a little wear in it, it starts to twist under the pressure of the belt that causes the pullley to lean slightly. That immediately causes the belt to track right off the edge.
You need to replace both the belt and the tensioner.
