1997 Ford Ranger Computer is beeping

replaced solenoid, new solenoid did not work ,when I jumped solenoid with screwdriver motor started but starter stayed engaged. some smoke from stater before I was able to shut it down.. now even if i jump batt. to started directly ...nothing but a beeping seems to be coming from computer. I may have mix a couple off wires when conecting solenoid.. please help just put bakes tires and timing belt in this truck plus many hrs.
