1996 Ford Ranger Can't turn the truck off!

I got home from work and turned the key to the off position and the truck kept running. I can pull the key out and everything and it won't turn off. I stalled the engine and removed the negative terminal from the battery so that it didn't kill it. Is it a bad ignition switch?

you need to replace the ignition switch ?

IGNITION SWITCH
Removal & Installation
Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove steering column cover. Remove instrument panel reinforcement plate. Remove shift indicator retaining screw (A/T models). Remove steering column-to-brake pedal support bracket screws.
Lower steering column until steering wheel rests on seat. Remove ignition switch retaining screws. Remove ignition switch. To install, reverse removal procedure.

Thank you for the quick reply! You replied with a question mark. Am I understanding you correctly, saying you think it's the ignition switch? Do you know how much those tend to cost? Thank you.

We can never be 100% sure ..after all we are only going off a description of the fault .. I am 90% sure you need to replace the ignition switch .. this is genereally the fault on ford vehicles ... If it was my vehicle i would be swapping the switch .. I hope this clarify's a little better for you ..let me know

Ignition switch, from a dealer OEM part is $38 you could probably get this a little cheaper at an autoparts store

shop labor (book time) is around 1 hour to R/R
