1995 Ford Ranger whining

Hello,
Just recently a whining noise in the rear of and underneath has developed. It has gotten progressively worse. The noise is loud at first, but decreases as everything warms.The noise is worse at slow speed and not noticeable at hiway speed.

first check the universal joint after that have a friend listen as you drive by to tell you if it is coming from the rear brakes the rear end and on which side is it loudest
