1995 Ford Ranger engine dies when put in gear

I jack the rear wheels off the ground start the truck it runs good in all gears but if it's in any gear the engine stops I can start the truck on the ground in nutral or park runs good but put it in gear it stops

Hi coachman1. Welcome to the forum. Here's a couple of things to try. Hold the gas pedal down just a little when you put it in gear. If it stays running, suspect a problem with the idle speed solenoid or the air passage is blocked with carbon.

If that doesn't help, observe if it also stalls when putting it in reverse. If it only stalls in drive, suspect a wire harness is rubbed through from normal engine rocking and a bare wire is grounding to the bare sheet metal. There can also be corroded or loose pins in an electrical connector. Wiggling and flexing them will often make the problem show up while the engine is running, in park.
