Service engine light stays on ford dealer said it was the gas cap if cleared it will come back on in a day two this has been this way for 4 or 5 years with no other problems where is this senser located and how does it work.

It sounds like a problem exist in the evaporative system-check the charcoal canister/purge control solenoid. It doesn't have a sensor-
