I always change my own oil and have never had a problem until now. After changing the oil and filter I started the car and lost all of the new oil. The filter seems faulty so I changed that again. I added up to 3 quarts of new oil. If I start the engine I get a reading. Then if I dip the stick again it does not show any oil. It is not leaking from anywhere. Where can the oil be going? What can cause this problem? I also drove a short distance and have stalled out which never happened before. The truck was fine before I did the oil change. Check Oil light is now on.

Hi there,

Take stock of what is happening, you lost all the oil, out of a faulty filter seal perhaps, re fill oil and run, if no leak the oil is there, so is there enough oil? Or is the end of the dip stick broken? The oil level indicator may be stuck causing the light to come on. If at all in doubt, drain sump into clean container, measure correct amount of oil as per the owners manual, re fill run and let sit for 5 Minutes, check level then, and if nothing on dip stick, make sue it's the correct one or it is not missing portion of the bottom giving a faulse reading.
