i have determined that my cooling fan has several cracks and it is being replaced. however, during this time the engine began 'knocking" on acceleration. could the inability of the fan to cool the engine thouroughly contribute to this? also, the "check engine" light came on during acceleration. i am wondering what the exact cause for the 'knocking"is. i hate to be told i need a "valve job".
thank you!

If the check engine light comes on, there is a sensor problem. Take the truck to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan it for codes. That will help identify where the problem is coming from, and most will do it for free.

Let me know what you find.
