My Ranger is showing that it is overheating. It comes up quickly within the first few moments of driving and drops slightly while at an idle. I thought it was the fan at first, but it is working fine. I then thought thermostat, but it seems to be functioning. I also am full on relatively fresh coolant. Also, my heater does not work. It will blow hot for a brief period, but then go to blowing cold air. Help please.

sounds like you could have a faulty water pump, try that to see how it goes.

first replace the thermostat dont look at it.
