Drive Train Axles Bearings problem

when I turn on the 4x4 on my truck it drives fine for about 30 feet but after that it seems that it gets stuck or something like that. there is a lot of noise when it is on. some one told me that it could be the transmission but it shifts fine and other told me that could be the front axle. What could be the problem?
