Engine Mechanical problem
1984 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

at low rpms the truck will hesitate and then stall. if you are driving down the road and then push in on the clutch it will rev up hold and then come down and stall. Runs good when the motor has a load on it but if you let off the gas then you will feel it kinda surge or hesitate when in gear.

I have replaced the throttle positioning sensor, the egr valve gasket (and cleaned inside the egr ports.), the spacer to intake gasket, the spacer to carb gasket.

I am running out of ideas. what do you guys think? Is it time to rebuild/replace carb. and give good tune up?

Since it runs good under a load, I would think the tune up isn't necessary. However, make sure the air filter and fuel filter is clean. As far as the carb, have you tried to adjust curb idle? If so and it still wants to die, chances are the carb needs a good cleaning and maybe rebuilt.

Let me know what you find. Also, if you haven't tuned it up in a long time, it wouldn't hurt to do it. However, I don't think that has anything to do with this problem.
