1997 Ford Probe Can't keep the car from chewing up belts

1997 Ford Probe

We replaced the Alternator in my 1997 Ford Probe about four months ago. And now it seams that every time I put a belt on it the belt will go for two to three days and then be torn apart. How do I properly fix this problem?

Most likely cause is a bad Harmonic Balancer. The Harmonic Balancer appears to be a one piece unit, but is actually two separate pieces fitted together, with a rubber seal between the two pieces. Your alternator belt uses one of the pulleys on the Harmonic Balancer. when the Harmonic Balancer starts to go bad or goes bad, it becomes loose and can change it's angle which in turn causes belts to rub against each other or against the metal of the Harmonic Balancer, causing them to fray. Check and replace the Harmonic Balancer.
