Just bought this probe, so excited, first car. Well when I go up hills if I dont get a headstart I end up going about 5mph up the hill, and last night I tried putting it into 2nd or 1st gear (automatic) and it rolled backward even thoough my foot was almost to the floor. I ended up making my girlfriend gas it while I pushed it up the hill, mind you this is not what I would consider a steep hill at all. Also and maybe an unrelated problem when it shifts it jerks the car. All I can think is transmission and if its that then I find a cliff and watch my $900 car explode cuz I cant afford a transmission. Im taking it to a mechanic tomorrow to figure it out, and so they can rape my wallet, but it would be nice if I could at least have an idea. Thanks in advance

Hi there,

This is sounding like a transmission fault, have you checked the trans oil? Is it full and is it red or a dirty brown colour and dose it smell burnt?

Read your answer this morning, couldnt figure out what u meant. Went to a mechanic at like 4 todya and he told me to smell the tranny dipstick. It was dark brown and he told me it was shot. So I have to go to every junkyard around to find a probe tranny, but even if I find one no one wantgs to put it in cuz its so hard guess I should have had it looked at before I bought it. Thank youy ofr your help though

HI there,

This dark brown colour is due to the transmission slipping over a long period of time, well before you purchased it, the oil should be a bright red colour with no burnt smell at all, it is important to keep a close eye on the transmission oil condition and level, have them serviced at least once every year, and get any small problem checked. As transmission repairs can be very expensive if left to long,

Good luck with this.
