My son purchased a 1991 ford probe recently, the radiator cap and radiator fluid blew off and out. What could cause this?

Hi there,

The radiator cap may not have been fitted properly last time it was removed. Under normal operating conditions the cooling system will build up pressure as it warms up, if the cap is not fully locked down and pressure can still build up there is a good chance that it could blow the cap off and a fair proportion of coolant will be lost. Top up coolant and check that the cap is locked down fully, if unsure ask your mechanic to inspect, if problem returns there may be a problem with the radiator cap and or neck.
