Before I accelerate when I put my car in drive the car jumps forward and the RPMs are below 1000 and jumps till it gets to zero and the shuts off. It appears the the idle on the engine is very low, how can I fix it to become higher?

Does it stay running if you don't put it in gear?

Yes it does run when it is not in gear.
