1989 Ford Probe odometer

My car usually works fine wherever I go. Today I was driving it for maybe ten minutes, and I was at around 30 mph, then this noise started I think from under the hood, and the odometer freaked out and went past 100 mph. However, I was only going maybe 35 mph. What should I do?

check the tranny fluid, if its a auto. or the cable may have broke for the odometer,or the gear in the tranny..
