Engine Mechanical problem
1974 Ford Pinto V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The car has a 302 short block and quit while idling in the driveway. It sounded like it ran out of gas. The starter will engage the engine, but will not crank. Put a wrench on the crankshaft and it turns in one directions nearly 360 degrees then stops, you can then turn it back the other direction same distance and the it stops. Any suggestions what it might be?

xxxx Check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter and fuel pump-if okay look for ignition spark

The starter will engage the engine, but will not crank

xxxxx could be the starter overrunning clutch is slipping
