I STOPPED FOR GAS AFTER I HAD BEEN DRIVING MY CAR ABOUT 45 MINTES, AFTER PUMPING I GOT IN AND IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. IT ACTED LIKE IT WAS A DEAD BATTERY OR MAYBE THE REGULATOR? ANYWAY AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE SHOP THEY TESTED ALTENATOR & REPLACED BATTERY. WELL EVER SINCE MY IDLE HAS BEEN AT 3000 WHEN I AM AT A STOP. IT GETS UP TO 4500 AT 70-75 MPR? WHAT GIVES?

What kind of car and engine are we talking about?

If your close to the same shop the may need to rest the computer. Sometimes after disconnecting a battery it will feed wrong info to sensors. Or visa versa they will have to hook up scanner to rest comp kinda sounds like a ford

There is a thing called an IAC motor which controls the idle and it may need cleaning the get carbon under the and them and the valve won't close so it makes the idle high. They are mounted on the side of the throtle body and has two wires going to it some times lightly taping on it will free it up. There are two kinds one has a plastic diaphram in it and they get cracks in them if this happens they need to be replaced so you kinda need to know which one you have. The only way to know this is to remove it and look whilr it is off you can spray carb sleaner in it to clean it. It has two 5/16 head bolts holding it on try not to tare the gasket. (NOS)

They have to use a scanner to reset do you possibly have a service engine soon light on or a check engine light on? If so this could also tell the tech what is going on with your car before they reset it. If your not sure about the cleaning of the iac let them do that also. Sometimes answering the questions is difacult not being able the listen to the car or hear what it is doing it sounds like also that the last people that did the alt knocked a vaccum line off when they did the alt. Stange that this started after they did the work. I'am trying to be as much help as posible.(NOS) :D

I'am affriad so. But something is going on with it. This didn't start till they did the battery thing. So by them disconnecting the batter and takeing voltage from the computer I can only assume that is where the problem is that it is receving the wrong info now and needs to be reset. We only chage 35.00 dollars for hook up of our scanner so surely it wouldn't be much more than that unless you take it to a dealer then you gona get took. (NOS) I would like to fix every car I hear about but sometimes it's not posible cause I can't see or hear the car. So I can only go buy what i'am told.
