Gear display data error

Hello I am the proud owner of a 97 lincoln mk viii v8 with 83k miles. The chk egine lite comes on and at the same time I get the gear display data error on the system monitor screen and the lite marked "d" on the gear selector goes out as well as the lite marked "d" on the dash. The check engine lite stays on and only goes off when the I have the codes cleard at the local autozone. The car runs fine and shifts fine. Whats causing this and how can I fix it :roll:

The code actually states "gear display data error" its wierd. I get it cleared and it back the instant I shift the car into drive. Thanks for the qucik reply
