Engine warning light comes on and I have a loss of power. how do you get to go off?

You read and record the diagnostic fault code(s) to determine which circuit to look at, diagnose the cause of that code, fix the cause, then erase the code. You never want to "get" the light to turn off. It is telling you there is a problem that needs to be solved.
