frozen distributor

hi, trying to adjust the timing on a '68 302 ford. Hasn't been done in 30 years. I can't get the dist to turn after i loosen the locking nut, any secrets to freeing up? thanks

you have the retaining nut and distributor retaining bracket off. Try tapping the distributor back and forth. Don't hit it hard. Usually you can get it by tapping where the vacuum advance unit is. Soak it with w-d 40 and let it sit for a while then repeat the process. If they have been in and not adjusted for some time they can be hard to get loose. even if you get it to move a little keep soaking it and moving it back and forth a little at a time until it loosens up
