I have a ford falcon futura ED, it has done 300,000ks the motor was reconditioned at 280,000, I had a problem where my car wouldn't idle, you would have to rev it when you started it to keep it running, I was told it was the idle air controll so it was replaced for a new one AU$265 since then my cruise controll no longer works, the idle speed is higher and the revs go from 1000 to 1500 at idle and when driving when you put the clutch in at 2,500 the revs stay at 2,500 and after about 15 seconds they begin to slowly come down again. It is also using alot of fuel. Any help would be great. Donation Made. Receipt ID: 38P97600A7949544G

Hi there,

You should get a fault code read. To be sure there is no problem in engine management system. The MAP sensor on the fire wall behind the inlet manifold can cause this problem as can a vacuum leak, often from the plastic out let at the bottom of the inlet manifold. It would not be the first time a new idle control motor was faulty either.

I agree with Mark, need to get the codes pulled for a start. I'm not familiar with the model you have as it is non-US, is it a sister car to one of the American models?

If a shop replaced the IAC, and the cruise stopped working, I would ask them to recheck their work.

Like Mark said, check for a vacuum leak, disconnected or cracked hose maybe, air intake not tight or leaking.
