bad engine rings

if i have bad engine rings do i need to rebuild the whole engine?

whats the symptoms first.....but yes if your replacing the piston rings your going to be better off getting a rebuild kit and yes the engine needs to be out of the car but if your burning oil it could be many things including valve seals or bad gasket etc..... more info would help.... good luck :)
