1996 Other Ford Models my van

My van is shifting pretty hard and the speedometer is not working. What could it be

Most people say its the speed sensor, and that could be. But my van does not have the same speed sensor that most do. Most plug in the side of the trans. Mine has the abs/ speed sensor. And it does control the shifting as well as the speedometer, I know because I replased it and now everything works again. It is located on the top of the rearend differential and is very easy to repair (5 minutes)
