MY 1996 MUSTANG MAKES A TICKING SOUND, MOSTLY NOTICEABLE ON ACCELERATION. WHAT CAUSES THAT AND HOW DO I FIX IT?

I'm assuming you don't hear the "ticking" when idling? Did this just begin recently? Sound like you're describing "pre-detonation" to me, which sound more like "rattling" upon acceleration (sort of like marbles rattling around). Did you notice this after a recent fuel filling? This is usually caused by "bad gas" (water in the gas), using low octane fuel, or bad timing. If this is from the gas, add some "gas dryer" to the remaining fuel to remove the water, or burn up as much fuel as you can, then top it off with a higher (89+) octane fuel.

If you constantly hear ticking (upon idle also), then I'd suggest bringing it somewhere to have it checked out before any major damage occurs. As mentioned, first check to ensure you have the proper oil level in your vehicle.
