Since the weather has turned colder (30-40s), I hear a constant squeal from the front of my car. After the car warms, the squeal goes away. Seem typical for an older car ~ belts have been known to squeal when it is cold out. I didn't think much of it.

However, on day when the morning weather was only around the 20s, my car continued squealing as it warmed up but had an intermitten sound that I can only compare to something grinding. I has in a hurry so I didn't let me car warm up completely before driving it, and 5 minutes later, the grinding noise replaced the constant squeal, my car seized up and shut down. I was able to restart and drive it to the nearest garage, however, I had to keep my foot on the brake and gas petel because once I started slowing down, the grinding noise came back and I could feel my car about to die.

The mechanic replaced my idle pulley and my alternator belt.

That was about 4 days ago. My car still squeals in the morning but it doesn't sound unusual. However, today, my car continued the squeal but I can hear a low soft grinding noise. Not as loud or as serious as the one earlier in the week, but still there. It's intermitten and as the car warms up, it subsides. However, while I am driving, if I am stopped in traffic, I can hear a constant "shuffling" noise and then every so often, the soft grinding noise.

In the last two months, I've also replaced my battery and alternator.

Any ideas?

I'm going to take it back to the garage, but would like a good idea of what may have gone wrong or is still wrong.
