2002 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L V8 SOHC - 55,000 miles. Car blew an ignition coil pack and I replaced all eight of them with ACCEL Performance coils, along with new spark plugs. After replacing all plugs and coils, I started the car and it blew the coil pack on the number one cylinder. I thought that it was just a defective coil and contacted ACCEL and they replaced it and it blew this coil as well after starting. I tried a few of the other OEM coils that I had taken off to replace with the ACCEL brand, and "steam" shoots through the top of the coil pack as soon as the car is started. I have spoken with multiple Ford techs and several other mechanics and noone can tell me what the problem is. The MIL code is ignition coil malfunction (Obviosly). Any ideas on what would be causing this?

Sounds to me like a pure electrical short, have you done any electrical mods on your car? ie: added stereo or amps?

The ECM grounds the coil to fire . If ECM keeps coil grounded it will overheat and smoke.
