I was driving down to Houston when my car started making a terrible tapping/clattering in the transmission when the flywheel is in motion. When it has stopped turning the car idles like there's nothing wrong with it, but as soon as I accelerate the noise starts and doesn't stop until the car is in a still position for a moment. Is it a cracked flywheel or the clutch. Could it be the crush bearing? Will I need a new clutch kit?

Sounds more like the throw-out bearing to me.

#1 the flywheel is always turning if the engine is running, its attached to the crank. #2 maybe you were thinking drive line and/or u-joint. Thats extrenal and less exspesive place to start. #3 boy toy has an idea, throwout bearing(i think you called it a crush?) Does it make a noise when not in gear with the engine running, then slightly press on the pedal only to spin up the throw out bearing but not enough to disengauge the clutch?Good luck.
