2001 Ford Mustang problem

i have a 2001 mustang gt it was running fine. then it sounded like something in the engine broke. and started to sound like it had a big exhaust leak. It is blowing a lot of air out the top of the engine. what could it be.

If it 's blowing air out the carb or FI unit you probably overreveed it and either broke a pushrod/follower/ valve spring something like that. If it's apushrod engine it may have thrown the lifter out of it's bore or broke that....
