Car has been sitting in our driveway for 2 years and has never been started during that time. What are the steps necessary to safely try starting it and what should be done to make it road worthy once again?

check the oil prior to starting, start the car and see how it's running, if all's good I would change the plugs and boots and go and get some injector cleaner and run the gas until the gas light comes on or close to it, see if there is an issue before worrying about it.
