Engine Performance problem

hi i have 2000 mustang gt with 67,000 miles i just got my engine pulled out to get the heads clean and polished. when i got the car back. the was no power and my mpg fell. i used to get 20-24 miles a gallon. now i get 10-12 gallons i am filling it up every three days. pleas help i need a couple suggestion. i even took it back to the shop and they keep it for a couple of days and said everything was fine. i don't think they look at it.. i noticed that i get some power at three thousand rpm. i just don't get it i lost power but i am wasting a lot more gas. please help
