My 1998 Mustang recently started overheating and cooling repeatedly. The temp will get right to the red, hold for a few minutes, then return to normal operating temperatures. It does this repeatedly. I checked the coolant level and there was no coolant. There's no sign of coolant leakage, and I changed the oil after it started doing this and there was no coolant in the oil. I'm about to remove the thermostat in hopes that it will help, but I'm at a complete loss here. Please help.

Try starting with the thermastat, while you are at it before you put the new one in backflush the system, After putting the new thermastat in. With the radiator cap off fill with coolant. Let it run until it reaches operating temp. And the collant is circulating. Fill radiator then put cap on. Let run a couple of more minutes before shutting off. Make sure resevoir is filled. After the car has run a couple of times check the fluid level. Keep track on the level over the next few days to make sure you are not loosing any coolant.
