my odometer went out for calculating the mileage and how many miles i have put on the car. what should i do and why did this happen?

1998 Ford Mustang V8 101000 miles
I have the same prob with 98 mustang GT - odometer stopped out of the blue, speedo fine. Took to repair - they pulled off (allegedly) 3 "instrument cluster" from other mustangs and they kept saying it was the wrong color on the back of the "plate"/cluster? (panel?) - so I picked my "baby" back up. They tried 3 times with 3 different instument clusters (that bolt into?) apparantly they sent yellow backed boards and I need a blue??? I have no idea and now the instrument panel is sitting in my living room...please help.
Any ides?
