Im not even sure if the mechanic I used even changed them, it also hesitates taking gas while driving it real bad now(since I changed those) it has never done that before. Any suggestions or advice! I know that on my 97, the fuel filter is just on the other side of the gas tank itself, if you put up the back end of your car and slide under, it's right in the middle on the other side there.

Your fuel filter is located in front of the fuel tank, near the rear axle.

My info shows it is located under the vehicle, passenger side, close to gas tank, mounted on frame rail. You need to make sure there is no pressure on the fuel system, before taking anything loose. Usually after the vehicle sits overnight without the pump being activated, not much pressure, but, you still need to be aware. Gas will still probably run out of the line/s, don't lay anything electrical where gas can hit it. If you loosen the cap, sometimes that helps to keep gas from running out? If too much gas is running out plug the line, till your ready to go back with filter. You'll probably need a disconnect tool to take fitting loose from filter, The autostore sells it. The filter looks like the picture.
