When I start my car it makes a high screeching noise and then smells like the belt is burning. After a couple of attempts the belt broke, i replaced it and get same high pitch noise. The compressor seems not to spin and causes friction when i crank it. Any suggestions on what I can do or what is wrong, before i take it in to a shop.

Probably the pulley bearing has sieaed, you can replace that part with a junkyard one without opening the system, unless it has ruined the compressor due to the heat.
