The Mustang in question recently had a situation in which one of the spark plug wires ended up being burned through. At the same time, we notice that at speeds of 35-45 mph, the engine ran noticeably rougher. The Check Engine light came on and stayed on. After taking the car to the shop, where all the spark plugs and associated wires were replaced with genuine Ford parts, and a fuel injection cleaning was also done, a test drive was done. During the test drive, the car ran great - until around 40 mph, when the rough driving happened. The check engine light came on for about 5 seconds and was blinking, then went off. A short time (a few minutes) later, the same thing happened - a blinking check engine light for a few seconds, then went off, with rough driving during this time. I did recollect that both times the check engine light came on, I was accelerating.

Any clues? Is this a fuel system problem? A catalytic converter problem?

Hello

Please go to Auto Zone or O'Reilly's and for free they can pull the codes to the car. Most important. Once they check your codes, if they find something and you don't get it fixed and need to get back with us, please make sure you tell us exactly what the code was, number and all. Example, if the code was E0568 O2 Sensor bad. Then make sure you give us all of that. While there for free also they can bring their tester out and check your battery, alternator and starter.

With this information we can start from there.
