Left rear speaker not working. Replaced with new. Still not working. Is it the wiring or my cd player? How do I rewire the speakers?

Try hooking up the old speaker to the right speaker wire. If it works then cut the left wire about a foot or 2 from your player and hook the old speaker up. If it plays then run a nw wire to the left speaker. If it does not then its the player. Here is a guide to help check the wiring with the radio wiring diagrams below.

Suggested Repair

Test the old speaker on the right speaker wire. If it works, cut the left wire about one to two feet from the radio and connect the old speaker there. If it plays, run a new wire to the left rear speaker; if it does not, the CD player is at fault. Confirm the circuit with the radio wiring diagrams and a wiring check.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1996 Ford Mustang said the left rear speaker still did not work after replacement and asked whether the wiring or CD player was bad and how to rewire the speakers. The expert advised testing the old speaker on the right speaker wire, then on the left wire cut about one to two feet from the player. If that test plays, run a new wire to the left speaker; if not, the player is bad. A wiring-check guide and radio wiring diagrams were also recommended.
