My Mustang has had continuous problems with overheating. I replaced thermostat to a 160 degree one. It was working fine for a while but know the fan wont stay on long enough to keep the coolant in the normal range. The needle will also spike. when i start up a few minutes later the needle is pushing past mid point but soon after i can watch drop all the way back done to the C. Some one let me know because I'm stuck in traffic allot and not only am i watching the needle more than the road but the stress is killing me.

Hi there,

I would start by having the radiator flushed and flow tested, make sure that the thermostat is opening at the correct range, just boil a pot of water on the stove with a suitable temp gauge and check the opening temp and see if it is opening fully. Check that the fan viscous coupling is working or electric fans if fitted are working.

start here.
