How do I replace the posi carrier in my rear chunk and replace the ring & pinion gear set in my 8.8 rear of my Mustang cobra? Are there any tech upgrades/tricks to do to get improved performance?
Thanks in advance.

DRIVE AXLE - POSITIVE ACTION -1993 Ford Mustang GT

OVERHAUL
DISASSEMBLY
1.Remove ring gear-to-differential case assembly bolts. Mark ring gear-to-differential case position for reassembly reference. Tap ring gear with soft-faced hammer until removed from case.
2.Remove differential pinion shaft lock bolt and pinion shaft. Using suitable drift, drive "S" spring partially out of differential. See Fig. Rotate differential case 180 degrees.
3.Grip "S" spring with pliers and remove from differential case. Rotate pinion gears within differential case with Differential Gear Rotator (T84P-4205-A for 7.5" ring gear, T80P-4205-A for 8.8" ring gear). 4.Remove pinion gears and thrust washers. Remove side gears, clutch plates and shims from both cavities and label them for reassembly reference.

CLEANING & INSPECTION

CAUTION:DO NOT use solvents or cleaning solutions on frictionplates.
Wipe friction plates with clean rag. Check clutch packs for wear or damage. Inspect pinion shaft, pinion gears, and side gears for excessive wear, cracks or scoring. Replace worn or damaged components as necessary.
CLUTCH PACK PRELOAD
1.With side gears removed from differential case, mount one side gear onto Differential Clutch Gauge (T84P-4946-A for 7.5" ring gear, T80P-4946-A for 8.8" ring gear). See Fig.
2.Assemble clean clutch pack onto side gear without shims. If using new clutch pack, lubricate with Ford Friction Modifier (C8AZ-19B546-A ) before installing to gauge base.
3.Install differential clutch gauge cover onto side gear clutch pack. Torque gauge cover to 60 INCH lbs. (6.7 N.m). See Fig.
4.Using a feeler gauge, select thickest blade that will fit between gauge and clutch pack. This blade thickness will be the required shim thickness. Repeat procedure for remaining side gear.

NOTE: Lubricate clutch pack with Ford Friction Modifier (C8AZ-19B546-A ) before final installation.

REASSEMBLY
1.Lubricate all parts before reassembly. Secure differential case in a soft-jawed vise. Install clutch
packs and side gears in their original cavities. See Fig.
Install pinion gears and thrust washers into case and mesh teeth with side gears. Install Differential Gear Rotator (T84P-4205-A for 7.5" ring gear, T80P-4205-A for 8.8" ring gear) for alignment of pinion gears. 2.Rotate pinion gears and thrust washers until gear bores align with case pinion shaft holes. Remove rotator shaft. Use a soft-faced hammer to drive "S" spring into case. Install pinion shaft and lock bolt temporarily. DO NOT tighten lock bolt at this time, as it will be tightened when axles are installed.
