My son just drove from school in canada to durango colorado in his 1988 mustang. I went out to look at his car for the first time. What I noticed was that his car had idle surge it would go from 2000 rpm to 14000 but would not go any lower unless hard shifted into gear.I tried to adjust his idle screw but it was already adjusted down. I would appreciate any information you could share. Thanks

First check the IAC module and clean out the throttle body and plate.

Im guessing u have a v8 or 4 cyl right?Because there is no v6 in a 1988 mustang. If its a v8 well most likely its the idle control valve. Its that cilinder looking thing that goes on the trotle body and has a small black connecting part at the end.I know those cars very well its the only cars I drive the v8 5.0
