1988 Ford Mustang alternator belt

ok i have change my alternator belt and it makes a sqeeking sound because it is hitting on the fan pulley that comes off of the water pump..how do i get the belt to stay off the pulley?

Sounds like you got the wrong belt. It sounds like it is to long so it in a different spot that is allowing it to touch the other pulley.
