Engine Performance problem
1988 Ford Mustang V8 Two Wheel Drive Manual
----------------------------------------------------------------
Car is idling rough. When accelerating, speed does not immediately come down. Fuel filter changed, timing set, pcv valve changed, along with visual inspection on the vacuum lines. All spark plugs and wires were inspected. Tried changing distributor cap ( 2 different ones) it caused the car to jerk back and forth rougher. When I put on the original distributor cap it runs slightly better. I have been using high octane gas, and can frequently smell fuel. Do you have any further suggestions for me?

Could be fuel pressure issue/an EGR valve that's opening too soon/PCV valve-TPS/MAF/MAP sensors. And also the idle air control valve/motor not targeting the idle speed
