Engine Performance problem
1987 Ford Mustang V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
After replacing the distrubitor and replacing spark plugs and spark plug wires the engine back fires or makes a loud popping noise from the exhaust.

The car had been sitting for months without running can you lend any insight as to what would cause the noise problem ?

make sure the firing order is correct and you installed the distributor properly and timing is set.

make sure the #1 cylinder is firing on the compression stroke not the exhaust stroke.
