tryin to figure out were kickdown cable is or is it a linkage car runs great when i manually shift feels slugish when i just leave it in drive

First off what trans? If is probably a vacuum shift through a vacuum modulator valve on the back of the trans near the tail shaft on the passenger side. I would replace it with an adjustable one then you can adjust you shift firmness. Hope this helps.
