1984 Ford Mustang Install new gas charged lift supports

1984 Ford Mustang 4 cyl

Hatch needed to new lift supports. The new lift suports are a few inches longer. I can not compress the support and position it on the ball at the same time. Is there a common method or trick to do this. Or are they too long and I should not need to compress them ? HI there,
I would say that they are to long, you normally have to lift the hatch on all cars to clip them in, get the correct size struts.
