So I just got done wireing a new tachometer and tested it and noticed that the engine will run as long as the key is held in the run position. Then when you release it from that position it dies. Headlamps, interior lights all work. But this problem has only happend after I installed the new aftermarket tachometer. I then took off the whole wiring to see if it was something I did but still it is still persisting.

I then attached a volt meter to my coil to see when it gets juice and it will get juice when the car is in the RUN position or START position then when I let go like I would normally do the volt meter shoots down and reads zero.

Thinking it was the ignition switch I replaced it, and tumbler but still nothing.

I have an electronic ignition and cant seem to see a Ballast resistor anywhere so I dont think it is that.

Turn key to run position -check for power at the coil positive terminal-do you have it? If not check wire going back to the ignition switch and retest the switch-

When you say "run" position do you mean the position you have to hold down to start your car or the position the ignition automatically resorts back to (or one turn to the right of off)?

And I check with my voltage meter with the negative lead on the negative line on the meter and the positive on the posotive line of the meter. And when the car was turned all the way over as you would start the car in the "START" position it would show voltage. But when let like typical driving it shot to 0.

And could you give me a basic understanding of what the ignition switch goes to from the actual plug you plug the ignition into under your dash. This is what I dont understand and hens makes it hard what to look for.
