I have a rebuilt 289 engine with a 600 CFM Holley Carb. When the idle is high, it runs good in the morning but once the idle is back to normal and the engine is still relatively cold, my car tends to bog a little to a near stall. But once the car is warmed up, the car runs perfectly fine. I was told MAYBE the fast idle needs to be adjusted. What do you guys think of the problem? Could spark plugs play a role in this also?

I would be getting the idle mixtures checked s well as the float height, these carbies area pain to get correct and they really stay in calibration when set, start here.

What's the best thing to do, just keep messing with the fast idle?

No, you really need to know that the emissions are doing, you should get an exhaust analyzer test done, this will show if the idle mixture is way to high the fast idle will not compensate this.
